Marquee TV - Channel Branding

Brief

Marquee TV’s expansion from an online-only platform into a linear broadcast channel called for an entirely new graphics package; one that could support and elevate its broadened offering. At the heart of this evolution was a clear ambition: to make the arts more accessible to audiences around the world by ‘bringing the arts home’.

Marquee TV features an eclectic mix of genres, spanning disciplines and styles. Yet, like an orchestra, these diverse elements come together in harmony to create something distinctive, rich, and beautifully unified.

Our challenge was to draw from the existing brand identity while thoughtfully evolving it, ensuring the new graphics package remained true to Marquee’s essence while meeting the demands of a dynamic broadcast environment.

Insight

Conceptually we needed to ensure the work was authoritative and accomplished yet warm and inspiring and ensure that the graphics package was simple, clean and uncluttered. Throughout our creative process we needed to integrate elements from the existing brand including their bespoke ‘M’ marque ‘Monogram Central’.

We needed to create a design that could feel cinematic and immersive while remaining highly flexible for broadcast, accommodating long show titles, multiple languages, and different layout grids for international markets. We also had to balance pre-rendered assets with working files that production companies could use consistently across shows, ensuring technical reliability without compromising the creative vision.

Solution

Drawing inspiration from cinema and stage, we centered the look and feel around light: graphics existed in a dark space, with elements like particles in light leaks, evoking dust in a spotlight or projector and light traveling across the screen as if a curtain were opening. This approach reinforced the channel’s heritage and focus while delivering a sophisticated, adaptable visual system that met the demands of a multi-platform, international broadcast environment.

Role

SR led the full creative development of the channel branding from early concept exploration and visual direction through to the final delivery of all on-air assets. Working closely with marketing and technical teams throughout, we tested and refined the system to ensure the highest quality output for viewers at home.
