Freeform — Future of Manufacturing Film

Brief

Freeform commissioned SR to create a 60-second film showcasing its autonomous metal manufacturing process and ambitious vision for the future. The film needed to engage a broad audience including investors, engineers, customers, and prospective talent.

The challenge was to bring the entire process to life; to clearly communicate how Freeform’s technology is reshaping modern manufacturing, demonstrating that this advanced approach is already redefining the industry through its speed, precision, and automation.

Insight

To build a deeper understanding of Freeform’s technology and capture its essence, we visited their HQ and factory in Los Angeles, seeing the machines in action and meeting the founders and engineers firsthand. This hands-on experience directly informed the animation, ensuring it was both technically accurate and clearly communicated the power of this technology.

At the heart of the film was Freeform’s groundbreaking digital twin system, which needed to take centre stage alongside visualisations of future giga-factories, demonstrating how their technology enables a fully automated manufacturing process.

Given the complexity of the subject matter, the challenge was to strike a careful balance between technical precision and cinematic impact.

Solution

We approached the film as a systems-driven narrative; deveoloping a cinematic framework which demonstrates Freeforms unique processes and manufacturing workflows in an engaging way. Alongside this, rhythm and pacing were carefully crafted to represent a broader future vision, with a focus on the acceleration of innovation, supported by an aesthetic that reinforces the pioneering nature of Freeform’s approach.

The film positions Freeform’s technology as an active force in the transformation of manufacturing, supporting their broader narrative across marketing and industry-facing communications.
